Be Chased By A Robot!

Sega have launched their new two wheel dancing robot – who will chase you round the house!

At 73cm (2.4ft) the aptly named “A.M.P Automated Music Personality”, is being marketed towards “Men who like robots and who as children dreamed of living one day with robots” (Osamu Takeuchi of Sega Toys)

The dancing robot is ready for an MP3 or Ipod played to be plugged into its back, it will then dance and bob its head with flahing LEDs. It is also being pitched as having a real presence in the home allowing interaction with the owner and in Takeuchi’s words: “The owner can also enjoy being chased around the house by the robot”. Quite how it does this is yet to be seen!

The ampbot will first retail for around $745.

A Robot in Every Household by 2020

South Korea has passed a law to spur development of intelligent robots & the law has secured financial investment with the aim of putting a robot in every household by the year 2020.

The enormity of the bill has made such an impact that four of neighbouring Japan’s leading start up robotics companies have joined forces. Previously working in isolation as competition, they have formed to create the “Association for market creation of the future generation robots”.

The companies are: Tokyo’s ZMP, Nagoya’s Business Design Laboratory, Osaka’s Vstone and Fukuoka’s Tmsuk.

The partnership between the four firms will mean greater knowledge sharing and an aggressive stance to turn science fiction into reality.
Both Japan and Korea are facing an aging population and they are determined to create advanced caring & companion robots to cope with this serious problem. Below is an example of robotic advancements filmed in Tokyo this year, although not an ISR (Intelligent Service Robot) it demonstrates the advancements made in lifelike robotic movement.

Google.co.uk Outage – Cheap Robot

At Cheaprobot we like to keep up to date with all technology news, when trying to use Google.co.uk today we experienced an outage at approx 09:45 for 15mins. It was Friday the 13th yesterday so are there some Gremlins at Google?!

There must be some stats on down times for Google and which was the longest time period?

Monkeys Control Robotic Arm with Brain

Believe it or not (!)

Two monkeys have been trained to control a robotic arm using only thoughts, even to feed themselves. At the University of Pittsburgh scientists have trained the monkeys to feed using the arm, and as seen on the video they are eating marshmellows.
